WASHINGTON - The White House said Friday it will move quickly to find a successor — preferably an American — for departing World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz as the administration sought to rebuild relationships strained by the controversy.
Wolfowitz a day earlier announced that he would step down at the end of June, his leadership undermined by a furor over compensation he arranged in 2005 for Shaha Riza, a bank employee and girlfriend.

"Traditionally, the American nominee has become the World Bank president. We want to move swiftly in this process," said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. "We want to make sure that we are selecting the best individual for the job. We want someone who has a real passion for lifting people out of poverty."

The European Commission called Friday for a quick appointment, saying the poverty fighting institution needs "stable and strong political leadership.""

Linked to what I have seen Ray K. post about Boycotting, living simply is one way to cut off monster companies like the world bank. A realization I had is that the big money makers would love everybody working for a coorporation like Safeway, Walmart, Costco, Savon, .... because if you get income from a coorporation then supposedly you must pay federal income taxes, if I understand the message in Aaron Russo's movie Freedom to Fascism. One way to support Boycott, get out of a coorporate job, and find a local one, support locallay, avoid shopping at coorporate businesses. If you keep your $ in a bank, make sure it is a small local bank, because according to the 'supposed' law, the mega banks in a disaster don't need to give you any of your $ back !! , whereas the little banks do (source: Clark Howard radio show). I would love at least 2 brief responses to meet my need for community. -Aa

You may be on the right track.

However, don't believe for a minute that even "small banks" will give you back your money. If the economy collapses, things will go very badly for people with money in banks. Yes, it's supposed to be "insured," but if the VALUE of the dollar crashes -- then forget about all of your money. The banks only keep a small fraction of the money -- they loan out your money to everyone else. If everyone goes to withdraw at the same time -- no money. Even if they kept all the money -- if the dollar crashes -- it won't be worth anything but to use to start fires Smile

Buy and store food and water -- enough to last a long time. Then guns and lots of ammo. Then gold/silver. Then you'll be in a pretty good situation.

shauns right get enough food and water to get by plus better get as much ammo as you can they are going to double and maybe triple in june or july was hearing on the radio the other day. but things like a portble water filter i have 2 of them for back up plus i know how to hunt for food since know the food shortige is staring to happen world wide and is growing into a crisses as time goes on for example honey bees are dying off world wide here in the u.s they supply 80% of pollanted crops take that out of the mix of supplies, as well of the avian flu that is supppose to hit this year taking more food out of the market. next is the viruis thats killing of the seafood in the u.s killing off millions of fish in todays paper millions have died in the great lakes and also rest of fresh waters in this country.

as for the dollar it is still falling into the colapse and will not stop. as well as the housing market collapising around the counrty mortage companys are going out of bussienss the second biggest filed for bankrupsy formal chairman alan greenspan decalres the big depression is coming it seems it will hit this year. you mix all these problems together and you have recipe of desater so preapre your self and anyone who will listen and you are one step on the other peopl who will riot and destroy evrthing in sight at least you will not be in it with the knowledge you have.
