Who would have ever expected that in America a person would receive a fine or face being arrested for taking a picture? Well, America the police state is here... and what are you going to do about it? Over the last 80 years America has slowly but surely turned from a Respectful Republic to a Beaming, Happy Go Lucky Seemingly Democratic, yet pitiful Dictatorship. Sorry but the truth is the truth.

I should have warned you that if you are a truly patriotic American... (You know the ones that slap flags on their mini van and denounce all claims that anyone in power could ever be corrupt... Well unless the major media reports on it. All hale FOX News.) As Lord Acton once said; “Where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control.” If you are a true patriot in that sick sense of the phrase then you may NOT want to read this. Heck you may want to clip this from your paper and send it to the Dept. of Homeland Security. I welcome any midnight visitor to my door.

Now back to the story. In October of this year in New York City it became illegal to film or take pictures for more than 30 minutes at a time in the same location without a permission and paying a Several thousand dollar fee to the mayor's office. On Thursday a lawsuit was filed by the NYCLU because it would seem the city police need better training to distinguish between law-abiding citizens who snap pictures of city landmarks and those suspected of plotting terrorism.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Arun Wiita, 26, a Columbia University graduate student of India descent who said he was arrested after a police officer spotted him snapping pictures near a Manhattan subway station. The NYCLU said the department has harassed photographers, "particularly those who fit Middle Eastern or South Asian racial and ethnic profiles".

It is my opinion that the words of Benjamin Franklin; “Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” ring true. I also believe that if we focused on protecting the borders of our homeland the same if not more than we do other countries we would not think about losing liberties for the sake of security.

I had my delusions after 9-11 that we were in the right to go to war but that all changed once i saw the truth behind it all. to be planced in chains because you want to take a photo? that is absolutely sickening. i knew there were idiotic people within the ranks of various police departments (if you don't believe me, look into all of the police brutality cases that are incurring right now) but with all due respect, how dumb do you got to be to arrest a college student for standing in one spot for a few minutes and taking photos? this just proves that not all idiots are sitting within the confines of washington dc.
