One of the supposed reasons for going to war with Iran is because they are allegedly supplying a type of roadside projectile weapon that is causing many injuries among the occupation armies. The idea being presented is that this device is so sophisticated that only the resources of a state could produce it. So let's consider that proposition.

I'm going to provide a general description of a destructive device below. This device is well known in the military, and details have been published. For example, you can purchase Black Book Companion from Paladin Press, ISBN 0-87364, and get full details on the manufacture of this device. The point is, I'm not presenting any new information, and I'm not advocating that anyone build such a device. I'm describing it in the context of the Iranian situation.

At the beginning of the last century, with advances in the science of explosives, a device named a "platter charge" was invented. It was basically a pipe with a metal wall welded to one end. A charge was placed against this "platter", and upon explosion, it flew off and caused damage in a single direction.

Later it was found that if metal with a relatively low melting temperature was used, the explosion would melt the metal, which would cause even more damage, including an incendiary effect.

Still later, it was found that if a copper platter was used, and the disk was formed into a concave shape (viewed from outside the pipe), the explosion would cause torsion in the disk, turning it inside out, and making it melt more readily.

These "copper slug charges" were used in the demolition and sabotage course taught to novice CIA agents in Camp Peary, Virginia. The device contained a magnet and a standoff to make it a shaped charge. It was applied to a gas tank of a car. When exploded, it went through the tank, causing everything in the car to incinerate. By this means a rather small device could produce a great deal of damage.

As I've said, plans for a similar device were published. Construction is very simple: one takes a can with a concave bottom, like a beer can or a soda pop can. Then melt 150 grams of copper (60 pennies) and pour into the bottom of the can. Although pennies are mostly zinc, this seems to work for the purpose. On top of the cooled copper metal, a charge of secondary explosive is placed, and then primary explosive, and then an ignition device.

That's it. Anybody can make one, if they have the materials, and the materials are not hard to get.

The devices used in Iraq are apparently pipes onto which a concave disk of copper has been welded or soldered. This is primitive technology that can be produced anywhere by semi-skilled labor.

So does Iran provide these devices to Iraq--when the border is heavily guarded? Isn't it more likely that the devices are made locally? They may even be supplied by intelligence agents, to provide a casus belli--a cause for war.

Bingo Ahmed! And we know that Cheney is dying to go to war with Iran. Can't someone get close to him and cause his pacemaker to malfunction enough so that he needs to be hospitalized for awhile and then is not up to the stress of the Vice presidency?

MM: of course the bush administration, cheney in perticular, wants to go to with iran. it has been suggested on this site through another post that the reason general petraeus is in charge is because he's jewish and putting a jew in charge of the american military in iraq is pretty much like waving a big red cape in front of a bull. bush is doing everything he can to provoke the iranians to make the first move. all he's going to do is piss all alot more muslims than he already has and then things are really going to heat up.

Ahmed: you make alot of excellent points and remove alot of the bullshit in the air on this issue. cheney doesn't give a damn about the lives or livelihoods of our soldiers all he cares about is taking over iran so he, bush and the oil companies and relish in the profits. it sounds to me that he also wants to send a message to the entire middle east that america can attack and wipe out any country at any time so don't mess with them. it reminds me of ancient rome.

I've heard that there are only 5 countries that are not controlled economically by the International Banksters. Iraq and Iran are two of them; Venezuela is another.

The Iraqis and the Iranians don't want the moneychanging bankers controlling their country. Neither does Chavez!
