Immigration activist Arellano arrested

LOS ANGELES—An immigration activist who sought refuge inside a Chicago church for a year was arrested in Los Angeles this afternoon after taking her campaign on the road.

Elvira Arellano was arrested about 4:15 p.m. Chicago time by law-enforcement officials after leaving Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in downtown Los Angeles, said Emma Lozano, an adviser who was there during the arrest.

After talking to news media inside the church, Arellano and her supporters got into their van to head north to San Jose, where she was scheduled to speak at another church, Lozano said. Moments after they entered the van, an unmarked vehicle stopped them.

The driver of Arellano's van, Roberto Lopez, poked his head out because he wanted to see why they were being blocked. Several other unmarked vehicles surrounded their van.

Agents emerged from all the cars screaming for Arellano to get out, Lozano said. Her 8-year-old son, Saul, started to cry, and Arellano said to ev eryone in the car, "Calm down. Don't have any fear. They can't hurt me."

Then she turned to the people who were about to arrest her and she said, "You're going to have to give me a minute with my son," Lozano said. She spent time with her son in the car, then surrendered.

Arellano was arrested on Main Street, near the church, where she slept Saturday night and where she's held several press conferences Saturday and today.

Well, the article in the tribune MUST be read to get clear understanding.
She clearly broke the law and she was justly arrested.

She was an illegal immigrant! She shouldn't be talking about immigration reform without being a citizen! "For the Pete of sake, the sake of Pete."= From the movie "Short Circuit" for those who didn't recognize it. Very Happy

I think it's pretty difficult, not to mention expensive, to successfully immigrate from most countries.

My wife was from Russia. It takes years and costs MANY thousands of dollars to become a Citizen. Also, if you're from Russia you can't just come over here and immigrate. You better be someone really famous, an ethnic minority (doesn't work if you're white), or severely persecuted or something. That, or you have to get married.

Most people don't understand what it's like. When our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc came over, you just hopped on a goddamn boat and came. There was no paperwork, no BS, no "quotas" no nothing. No thousands of dollars of paperwork filing fees. No thousands of dollars on immigration attorneys. No interviews, no background checks, tax checks, etc etc.

I used to be as against "illegal" immigration as you. That was until I came to realize YOU CAN'T IMMIGRATE "LEGALLY" HERE. This IS supposed to be a place where anyone can come and make a better life. So why are so many people in the "patriot" movement against immigration? People say they're only against ILLEGAL immigration -- ok great. But at the same time they don't point the blame where it belongs.

The same government that is promoting, encouraging, and facilitating this "illegal" immigration is the same goddamn government that has gone and made it impossible to do it the legal way.

I doubt there is even Constitutional power to do all of these things! The rights in the Constitution are not just for citizens -- they are for ALL men and women here on this soil. So scrap these unconstitutional immigration laws, and all of those millions of "illegal" immigrants which every joe patriot and his brother are against would be seen as perfectly legal.

I've come to realize the anti-immigration thing is about racism. And I can say that, because I used to be a believer in it until I figured it out. Everyone is a little racist -- it's human nature. But let's at least acknowledge this weakness and try to overcome it. If you need something to fight -- fight the freemasons -- they are the ENEMY of freedom. They have had their hands in every problem that has happened in this country.
